New Delhi,Nov 11: State Bank of India Chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya on Thursday said that more of 100-rupee notes will be given out more.
“We have received some amount of notes of Rs 2,000 denomination. Wherever we have got them, they will be distributed. But notes of Rs 2,000 will be given at branches, but not ATMs. The SBI ATMs will be operational from Friday. We are doing an evacuation of ATMs and then we will have to put in fresh notes and reconfigure the machines” she said bank branches have adequate staff on basis of average requirement”.
The SBI chair stated that some chaos is expected but situations like this are a part of the process.
“The staffs in banks are hired as per the average requirement. Since this requirement arose only yesterday, it will take some time” she said.
Long ques were seen outside the banks this morning as people flocked nearby places to exchange their existing Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes.
