New Delhi, April 26: Aam Aadmi Party candidate from East Delhi Atishi Marlena filed a criminal complaint against her opponent former cricketer and BJP nominee Gautam Gambhir alleging he has two voter id cards.
The complaint was registered on Thursday under Section 155(2) at the Tis Hazari Court, seeking direction for police probe into offences punishable under Sections 17 and 31 of The Representation of the People Act, 1950 and Section 125A of The Representation of the People Act, 1951.
“I have filed a criminal complaint against the BJP candidate from East Delhi Gautam Gambhir over his possession of two voter IDs in two separate constituencies of Delhi, Karol Bagh and Rajinder Nagar”, she tweeted.
“In his affidavit to the Returning Officer while filing his nomination, Gambhir concealed the information that he is also registered to vote in Karol Bagh, which is punishable under Sec 125A of the Representation of the People Act with up to 6 months jail time”, she added.
“If this information had been revealed by us at the time of scrutiny, his nomination would have been cancelled. This is a disqualifiable offence that will lead to his disqualification sooner or later”, the AAP leader said in a series of tweets.
The plea is likely to be heard by a Metropolitan Magistrate at the district court on May 1.
