Jakarta, Aug 27: Indian player Neeraj Chopra clinched a gold medal in men’s javelin throw final at the Asian Games 2018.
Neeraj threw 88.06 metres in his final attempt to bag the golden metal.
With the recent victory, gold medal tally reached to 8 at the 18th edition of Asaid games in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang.
While Shivpal Singh, the other Indian in the fray, registered 74.11m to finish eighth.
President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the star performer.
“A historic Gold! The whole nation is immensely proud of Neeraj Chopra for winning the Gold in Men’s Javelin Throw event at the Asian Games 2018. A special moment for you, for Haryana and for all of India! Congratulations.. Keep it up !”, President said.
While PM Modi tweeted ” When Neeraj Chopra is on the field, expect the very best from him. This youngster makes India happier by winning a Gold in the Men’s Javelin Throw Final. We also congratulate him for setting a new national record”.
Showcasing a spectacular performance, the star javelin-thrower won the gold medal at the 21st Commonwealth Games earlier this year, threw 85.17 metres to win the prize.
