Asiad 2018: India’s Amit Panghal clinches gold medal in 49 kg Boxing

Jakarta, Sept 1: India’s Amit Panghal clinched a  gold medal in 49 kg Boxing event at the Asian Games 2018 on Saturday. 

The Haryana pugilist defeated Olympic champion Hasanboy Dusmatov of Uzbekistan to attain the victory.

“I am very happy, my practice paid off. The strategy of my coaches worked. I was under pressure as others Indian boxers got hurt and lost. I lost last time so I was determined to win this time”, Paghal said after winning the golden metal.

While Vikas Krishan settled for the silver medal in the men’s middleweight (75kg) division.

In the semi-final, Panghal faced Carlo Paalam of Philippines to fight for the golden metal.

With the recent gold medal, Amit Panghal took India’s medal tally at the 18th edition of Asiad Games to 66 medals.

Now India has – 14 gold, 23 silver and 29 bronze.
