New Delhi, Feb 17: Congress state president Ajay Maken on Saturday said Arvinder Singh Lovely has re-joined the party.

His re-induction in the Congress was announced after Lovely, along with Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken, former Delhi Minister Haroon Yusuf and party’s spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala met party President Rahul Gandhi at his residence here.

“It was not an easy decision for me to leave Congress. The decision was taken in pain. Ideologically, I was a misfit there (BJP),” Lovely told the media.

While Maken said “We are happy to announce that Lovely has joined Congress back. We welcome him to the party again.”

“Congress will be strengthened by his presence again and we will serve the people of Delhi,” the Congress leader asserted.

He also praised Lovely and his family for their contribution to the party for generations.

“Lovely and his family have contributed to the Congress for long. He has been a strong sepoy of the Congress for generations. He has been the former Delhi unit chief and a former Minister in the Delhi government,” Maken added.

He had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in April last year ahead of Delhi MCD polls. A four-time MLA, Lovely was first elected to the Delhi Legislative Assembly in 1998.

Rahul Gandhi Farmers

New Delhi, Oct 24 : After coming under attack from BJP leaders for not visiting families of rape victims in Rajasthan and Punjab unlike Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi said that the two of his party-ruled states did not deny incidents of rape and didn’t block justice and “if they do” he will go there to fight for justice as well.

“Unlike in UP, the governments of Punjab and Rajasthan are not denying that the girl was raped, threatening her family and blocking the course of justice. If they do, I will go there to fight for justice,” Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet.

His remarks came after Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman, Prakash Javadekar and Dr Harsh Vardhan questioned the Congress leader for not visiting Punjab and Rajasthan.
