Arresting Burhan wani would have been better: JU VC

Jammu, Nov 10, 2016: Vice Chancellor of Jammu University Prof RD Sharma on Wednesday raised a new controversy over the issue of eliminating Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani by saying he should have been caught alive and later sent to jail.

Speaking at a media conference in Jammu, Vice Chancellor of Jammu University said: “Why was he killed, he should have been caught alive and later sent to jail for life imprisonment.”

“There is a need to understand the mindset of people which is responsible for the present circumstances. Students from the Kashmir valley are like our children whose academic career is at stake in the prevailing unrest,” the JU Vice Chancellor said. “It would have been better if Burhan Wani was captured alive and arrested instead of being killed in an encounter,” he said.

Sharing his experience, JU VC, said during two and half years while working for state government, he found Kashmiri students very dedicated and hard working.

“Kashmiri students are highly careered conscious, hard workers, enlightened, dedicated and I know they cannot tolerate any sort of discrimination against them. So, for me, it is really painful to see those children endorsing the Bandh. We need to introspect”, he said.

He said, “I too wonder as to why now children in Kashmir want to remain uneducated, why people want to do or die, why they want this agitation to end with a solution. These developments are really disturbing”.

Earlier both Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Deputy Chief Minister Professor Nirmal Singh had given questionable statements which had created a buzz about the slain Hizbul commander Burhan Wani.
