Army jawan booked for alleged rape

Vishakhapatnam, June 2: Andhra Pradesh police booked an Indian Army jawan after a 17-year-old girl accused him of allegedly raping and cheating her on the promise of marriage.

Wednesday, the victim filed a complaint with Chodavaram police under Sections 376, 417, 420 and 506 read with 34 of IPC and Section 6 of the POCSO Act, the times of India reported.

According to the Hindu report, the victim alleged that the accused had entered her home when her parents were away and raped her on November 20, 2017.

Later, he lured her with the promise of marriage and raped her several times for few months following which she became pregnant. When she informed him about her pregnancy and urged him to marry her, the accused allegedly rejected her proposal.

The accused and his family members reportedly sought that the girl to terminate the pregnancy by offering cash, she alleged adding that his family members threatened her with dire consequences if done otherwise.

The victim with the support of women’s organisations approached Chodavaram police and Chodavaram MLA, KSNS Raju for the justice.

As the girl has claimed that she was pregnant, she was sent for medical examination. The state police have launched search operation for the accused.
