San Jose (California), June 5: Apple has announced iOS 12, the latest version of the most advanced mobile operating system, which will make daily tasks faster and more responsive.

iOS 12 will ensure better Augmented Reality (AR) experiences and new ways to communicate.

The operating system introduces “Siri Shortcuts”, enabling Siri to work with any app, delivering a much faster way to get things done.

“We’re very excited about the new communications features we’re bringing to iPhone and iPad with Memoji, a more personal form of Animoji, fun camera effects and Group FaceTime,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering.

“We’re using advanced algorithms to make AR even more engaging and on-device intelligence to deliver faster ways to get things done using Siri,” he told the gathering at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2018 here late Monday.

iOS 12 is designed to make everyday tasks on iPhone and iPad faster and more responsive.

“Camera launches up to 70 per cent faster, the keyboard appears up to 50 per cent faster and typing is more responsive. Even when there is a lot going on across the system, apps can launch up to twice as fast,” Apple said in a statement.

Apple’s “ARKit 2” enables developers to create innovative AR apps, with new tools to integrate shared experiences, persistent AR experiences tied to a specific location, object detection and image tracking.

“Create beautifully designed ‘Memoji’ right within Messages by choosing from a set of inclusive and diverse characteristics to form a unique personality,” the company said.

“Siri Shortcuts” deliver a new, much faster way to get things done with the ability for any app to work with Siri.

Siri intelligence can suggest an action at just the right time — whether it’s to order a coffee in the morning or start an afternoon workout.

“In Safari browser, enhanced ‘Intelligent Tracking Prevention’ helps block social media ‘Like’ or ‘Share’ buttons and comment widgets from tracking users without permission,” Apple said.

The developer preview of iOS 12 is available now and a public beta programme will be available to iOS users later this month.

Apple also previewed macOS “Mojave”, the latest version of the world’s most advanced desktop operating system, with new features.

A new “Dark Mode” transforms the desktop with a dramatic new look that puts the focus on user content.

“macOS Mojave is a major update that introduces powerful new features for a wide range of Mac users, from consumers to pros,” said Federighi.

“Dark Mode brings a dramatic new look to macOS that puts your content front and centre, familiar iOS apps come to the Mac for the first time and the redesigned Mac App Store makes finding new apps easier and more enjoyable than ever,” he added.

Apple also previewed watchOS 5, a significant update to Apple Watch, with a host of new features including Activity Sharing competitions, auto-workout detection, advanced running features, Walkie-Talkie, Apple Podcasts and third-party apps on the Siri watch face.

NASA Shared Gorgeous New Images of Jupiter & Europa From the Hubble Telescope

NASA Jupiter Picture

It might not sport the photogenic rings of Saturn, but the striped clouds of Jupiter are gorgeous. NASA and ESA’s Hubble Space Telescope has captured a beautiful new image of the solar system’s biggest planet.

The image was taken on August 25 and just shared, but it’s already giving researchers a fresh look at the weather on the planet. That includes the larger-the-Earth storm that is the Great Red Spot. You can also see a new storm that NASA calls “a cousin” to the Great Red Spot.

Additionally, in the upper left of the image, you can spot the moon Europa, the smallest of Jupiter’s four Galilean moons. Recent research has upped the estimate of total moons for Jupiter, putting the number at as many as 600. Europa is high on the list of places that might have some form of life inside our solar system. (Last week, Venus also climbed into that conversation.)

The announcement calls the new storm “unique and exciting.” It “appears at mid-northern latitudes as a bright, white, stretched-out storm” moving at more than 340 miles per hour. Storms in this region aren’t atypical, according to NASA, but this one “appears to have more structure.” The researchers say that this could be the start of a long-duration storm in the planet’s northern hemisphere, “perhaps to rival the legendary Great Red Spot that dominates the southern hemisphere.”

The image also provides a good look at the Oval BA, which has been nicknamed Red Spot Jr. It’s the storm sitting just below the Great Red Spot.

The second image comes in surprising colors because Hubble snapped the multiwavelength image in ultraviolet/visible/near-infrared light. The image, according to NASA, ” offers insights into the altitude and distribution of the planet’s haze and particles.”

It’s a gorgeous image. But, as always, there’s a more than beauty to the images Hubble is sending back for us to admire.

NEW YORK : A United States judge in California declined to block the Commerce Department order issued on Friday that will prohibit U.S. app stores from offering Tencent Holding’s WeChat for download starting late Sunday.

Judge Laurel Beeler said the request for a preliminary injunction in a lawsuit brought by U.S. WeChat users appeared moot after the Commerce order but said in an written order “the court is available today for a hearing on any emergency motions.” A lawyer for the WeChat users did not immediately comment.

Beeler issued a follow-up order that said lawyers for the WeChat users “will file something by 10:45 a.m. (PDT) about why the motion is not moot.” She tentatively sets a Zoom hearing for 11:00 a.m. (PDT)(1700 GMT).

The Justice Department said Friday in a court filing that Beeler should reject the request, saying President Donald Trump “has invoked his emergency powers to address (the WeChat) threat, and plaintiffs have articulated no legal basis for the Court to take the extraordinary step of enjoining his exercise of that authority.”
