Anu Kumari, Mother of a 4-Year-Old, UPSC Second Rank Holder

New Delhi, April 28: Thirty-one-year-old Anu Kumari clinched the second rank in UPSC exams and topped the prestigious examination among women.

Haryana’s Anu achieved this victory in her second attempt with her hopes high and hardcore dedication.

She is a perfect example of saying “Extraordinary Doesn’t Just Happen”. A devoted mother, Anu not only fulfilled her household responsibilities but took out 10-12 hours every day for her preparations.

Speaking to news agency ANI, the UPSC Second Rank Holder said “I used to study 10-12 hours a day. This is like a dream come true. This feeling has still not sunk in”.

“My first preference will be IAS as I want to stay in my country serve the people here”, Anu stated.

Anu Kumari did not take any coaching classes for her preparations. She has completed her graduation in Physics from Delhi University and is an MBA from IMT Nagpur.

More than 9.5 lakh candidates applied for 2017 UPSC preliminary examination. Out of which, 4, 56, 625 candidates appeared.

While 13,366 candidates qualified for the Written (Main) Examination which was conducted in October-November last year, only 2,568 candidates qualified for the Personality Test conducted in February-April 2018.

Followed by this, the commission recommended a total of 990 candidates (750 males and 240 females) for appointments to various services.
