Anti-green Ganesha idols ban in Agra

Ganesh Chaturthi

Agra, Sep 13: The Agra district administration on Thursday prohibited the sale and immersion of Ganesha idols made of Plaster of Paris in the Yamuna river and ponds.

Additional District Magistrate K.P. Singh’s advisory also warned of strict action against those using banned colours in the idols or playing loud music during the processions on the streets.

The Agra Municipal Corporation has made immersion ponds at the Yamuna ghats.

This year, a number of voluntary groups have promoted and encouraged ecological idols of Ganesha.

One such organization is Madhya Pradesh’s ‘Narmada Samagra’. It is organised a workshop for training people to make their own eco-friendly Vinayak.

There is a huge variety of the chemical-free idols in the markets and one can also prepare their own by using clay, paper, leaves, rice, and several other basic materials.
