Mumbai, March 20

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan was spotted wearing a neck brace, and he says it’s due to a strained neck caused by stunts he did in his younger days.

The 74-year-old thespian was photographed wearing a neck brace while he attended his daughter-in-law and actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s father’s funeral here on March 18.

“Many have, yes, seen the picture with the neck brace and have expressed either exclamation or remedy, or surprise… It’s factual and it’s on my neck, because the neck is strained. These are recurrences of old action and stunt injuries right from the time of ‘Don’ and several other films that came after that have involved my physical movements for action deeds going horribly wrong,” Amitabh wrote on his blog.

“The cervical has undergone so many damage inflicting stunts that several vertebrae are damaged, out of position, infected with trauma, and several other complicated medical terminology which I just cannot understand… Resulting in any act or movement or subjection to an awkward resting position, those vertebrae move about again out of position, making it impossible for me to sit stand sleep rest in any position whatsoever,” he added.

Amitabh said there were no safety devices during their times.

“It was raw it was real and it was injury-centric. We jumped from heights without protection, without soft landing gear, without harnesses that most actors deploy now and without face replacement,” he added.

The “Piku” star calls face replacement a “wonderful technological invention”.

“Where a double or a duplicate can make the 1960s jump and his face is replaced by the main artist’s… So, on screen it looks as if the hero did it… Difficult bike sequences, which involve dangerous riding skills are never with the leading man… They are done with duplicates and the face replaced with that of the leading man,” he added.

Amitabh says special effects and VFX has made an actor’s life and work easy.

“VFX is expensive stuff. Replication of every action of the actor can be pre captured and through replacement made to look real… You need never go to Mt Everest, but you could be put there on top,” he said.

Shah Rukh Khan

Davos, Jan 23: It was, as he said, his “fan moment”. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who was feted with a Crystal Award at the World Economic Forum summit here along with Hollywood celebrities Cate Blanchett and Elton John, requested a selfie.

Shah Rukh received the award on Monday for his “leadership in championing children’s and women’s rights in India” with the help of Meer Foundation.

After receiving the award, SRK lauded Blanchett and John for winning a billion hearts.

“I am genuinely and deeply grateful for this honour and it is indeed a privilege to be in the company of two phenomenal and extraordinary human beings and talent — Cate Blanchette and Sir Elton John.

“She is of course the lady who commands the wind and you sir command the song of a billion hearts, including mine,” Shah Rukh said in his speech.

The 52-year-old requested Blanchett and John for a selfie.

“So, I am really really touched that I have been chosen between these two. Just a special request before you go… Can I do a selfie,” he said.

After that, he joked that it may leave his children embarrassed.

Shah Rukh also spoke about his social initiative via Meer Foundation, an organisation that works extensively towards empowering women subjected to acid attack.

“To disfigure a woman by throwing acid on her face is to me one of the crudest acts of subjugation imaginable. At the source of it lies the view that a woman does not have any right to assert her choice or say ‘no’ to advances by a man or a group of men.”

He said he was grateful to the brave women and children who he has worked with.

Shah Rukh also thanked his sister Shehnaz Lalarukh Khan, wife Gauri and daughter Suhana.

“I want to thank my sister, wife and my little daughter for bringing me up well and teaching me the value of requesting, sometimes imploring and sometimes even begging a yes from a women instead of forcing on her,” he said before wrapping up his speech with a “Namaskar” and “Jai Hind”.

Before the award gala, the “Raees” star shared a photograph of himself with his signature open arm style.

In another post made after reaching Davos was a photograph featuring him with a pristine white snow-clad landscape as the backdrop.

Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety

Mumbai, Jan 22: The makers of “Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety” have announced that the film will now release on February 23 in the wake of the changes in the Bollywood calendar due to “Padmaavat” and “Pad Man”.

The film was earlier to release on February 9, a date when “Pad Man” and “Aiyaary” are slated to hit the screens.

The makers did not think it was beneficial for anyone if three films of this size release on the same date. So, they decided to postpone it.

“We are all aware of the recent developments with regards to release dates. It didn’t seem logical to stick to a Friday so crowded,” Luv Ranjan, writer and director of “Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety”, told IANS.

A new-age love triangle set in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, the film is produced by T-Series’ Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar and Luv Films’ Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg. It features Kartik Aaryan, Nushrat Bharucha and Sunny Singh.

The Bollywood calendar got shaken up after Akshay Kumar decided to shift his much-awaited “Pad Man” to February 9 from the January 25 date, leaving the pre-Republic Day release window open for a solo release for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s controversial drama “Padmaavat”.

When “Padmaavat” was announced to have a clash with “Pad Man”, the makers of “Aiyaary” had altered its release date from January 25 to February 9.

Now, “Pad Man” and “Aiyaary” will once again be competing at the box office.
