New Delhi, July 27, 2017: Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Amit Shah is all set to make his debut in Parliament as he will contest the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls from Gujarat, which is scheduled to be held on August 8.
Shah is currently an MLA from Ahmedabad’s Naranpura, in the outgoing House and this is the first time Shah would contest an election to become a Member of Parliament.
The Board’s secretary, Health Minister J.P. Nadda, made the announcement after the party’s parliamentary board meeting on Wednesday.
I&B and textiles minister Smriti Irani will also be BJP’s other Rajya Sabha nominee from Gujarat as her tenure as an MP of the Upper House ends on August 18.
BJP sources said that while the party had not announced an official candidate for the third Rajya Sabha seat in Gujarat, for which the Congress has enough numbers and nominated its senior leader Ahmed Patel, it could support an Independent candidate.
