Inaugurating schemes in Ambedkar’s name won’t lead to development of Dalits: Mayawati to PM Modi

Lucknow, April 14: BSP Supremo Mayawati on Saturday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying commemorating places related to Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar’s life and inaugurating schemes in his name will not lead to Dalits’ development.

Addressing a press conference on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, the BSP Chief stated “I want to tell Modi Ji and his govt that commemorating places related to Baba Saheb’s life and inaugurating schemes in his name, will in no way lead to development of Dalits”.

Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated on April 14 every year to mark the birth anniversary of Dalit leader Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, who is remembered as “The Father of the Constitution of India” and the man who fought for the oppressed.

The country commemorates his 127th birthday on Saturday.

Popularly known as Babasaheb, Ambedkar showcased his versatility as an Indian jurist, economist, politician and social reformer who inspired the Dalit Buddhist Movement.

Babasaheb also campaigned against social discrimination against untouchables and also supported the rights of women and labourers.
