Amarnath Yatra: Rajnath Singh to hold meeting on security arrangements

New Delhi, June 14: Union home minister Rajnath Singh will convene a meeting on Thursday to review the security arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra that commences from June 28.

The PDP-BJP coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir has already demanded around 22,500 additional paramilitary personnel for deployment along the entire route of the Amarnath pilgrimage.

Earlier in June, during his two-day visit to the Valley, Rajnath called on Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and discussed security arrangements that have been put in place for the pilgrimage.

More than three lakh pilgrims visit the Amarnath Shrine every year and the administration is taking all steps to provide facilities for them.

Last year, nine Amarnath pilgrims were killed and several injured including three policemen after militants attacked a Yatri bus and a police party in Anantnag along the Jammu-Srinagar Highway in south Kashmir. Keeping that in mind, multi-tier security arrangements are being made.
