Allegations against Jay Shah’s will haunt BJP in elections

BJP President Amit Shah son Jay Shah’s company’s allegedly astronomical rise in turnover from a mere Rs 50,000 in 2014 to Rs 80 crore in 2015 which cannot be justified by any stretch of imagination, will haunt the Bharatiya Janata Party poll prospects in the coming state assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

The way BJP’s central minister Piyush Goyal, who is handling Railways and Coal, defended the Jay Shah’s case points to the fact that What prompted him to come to the defense of BJP President’s son.

The clarification was made by Piyush Goyal in a press conference in which he said, “Jay Shah is an engineer from a reputed college, he partnered with Jitendra Shah who is an old family friend of Jay Shah’s family and also a commodity trader carrying commodity business for 8-9 years. Together started the business on agriculture commodities. And all these agriculture commodity is a high volume high value but very high margin business.”

He doesn’t appear to have any locus standee. The manner in which a top government lawyer Tushar Mehta has been appointed for defending the case looks bizarre. Further Prime Minister Narendra Modi had pledged corruption free governance and he should therefore throw his own views on the alleged corruption scandal involving Jay shah after sacking Amit Shah.

The major point to be noted that what type of business on agriculture commodities could bring in such huge profits when the agriculturalists have been committing suicides since last so many years. The idea was not given to farmers to make such huge profits.

BJP senior leader Yashwant Sinha stated that the BJP appears guilty of many lapses as “the loan was given to Jai Shah by the Power Ministry and the way (minister) Piyush Goyal defended him, it gives the impression that there’s something wrong.”

It would therefore be in the fitness of things if a panel of Congress led opposition conducts a probe in the matter for the satisfaction of the political parties and the Indian public.
