Aircel-Maxis: Interim protection to P Chidambaram, Karti extended

New Delhi, Oct 8: The Delhi Patiala House Court on Wednesday extended the interim protection of former Union Minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram till November 1 in connection with the Aircel-Maxis case.

Special CBI Judge O P Saini fixed November 1 for the next the hearing.

The court was hearing anticipatory bail pleas of the father-son duo seeking protection from arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement Directorate.

The ED is probing the Aircel-Maxis deal under the PMLA after taking cognisance of a 2011 Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) complaint in the case.

The agencies are investigating how Karti Chidambaram allegedly managed to get a clearance from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) in the Aircel-Maxis deal when his father P Chidambaram was the Union Finance Minister in 2006.
