Ahead of trust vote, Karnataka Speaker disqualifies 14 rebel MLAs

Bengaluru, July 28: Highly upset with the political developments, Karnataka Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar disqualified 14 rebel Congress MLAs and asked all MLAs to appear for the session on Monday for the BS Yediyurappa-led government’s floor test.

Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar said, ” Where have we reached? The way I am being pressurized to deal with the situation(recent political developments in Karnataka) being a speaker… all these things have pushed me into a sea of depression. ”

The total number of disqualified MLAs now stands at 17 and the strength of the House is reduced to 209, and the majority mark slides to 105. The BJP is now at 105 plus one Independent – putting Yediyurappa on safe ground, for now.

The decision of the Speaker came a day ahead of the trust vote for the newly-formed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state. Earlier, the speaker disqualified three rebel Congress MLAs for abstaining from the trust vote of the HD Kumaraswamy government,
