As on Tuesday parliamentary meeting holds by top BJP leaders decided to discuss the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, as oppositions and ruling party locking horns against each other in the Parliament.
Besides Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, who will make statement over the AgustaWestland deal and investigation, senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy is expected to launch attack on Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi in the Upper House of the Parliament.
BJP leaders Bhupendra Yadav and Subramanian Swamy had given notices for holding a short duration discussion on the VVIP chopper issue. Swamy on his very second day after taking oath as a Rajya Sabha member in the Parliament had named Sonia Gandhi while speaking on the AgustaWestland making Congress members camp furious.
To counter and give reply on allegations made by ruling BJP, Congress is likely to filed former Defence Minister AK Antony and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh besides leader of opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma and Ahmed Patel. Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh may participate in the debate too.
Parrikar is expected to blame Congress arguing that UPA helped AgustaWestland win the Rs 3,600 crore deal by changes in specifications that were okayed by then IAF chief S P Tyagi. Leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, had earlier on Monday accused the Centre of pursuing a politically motivated campaign to defame the grand old party through the AgustaWestland copter scam.
Meanwhile, the CBI has started questioning former Air chief S.P. Tyagi at its headquarter here in connection with alleged irregularities in the Rs. 3600 crore VVIP chopper deal.
