A CBI special court grants bail to SanjeevTyagi and Gautam Khaitan

NEW DELHI: A CBI special court grants bail to Sanjeev Tyagi, cousin of ex-IAF chief SP Tyagi, and lawyer Gautam Khaitan in VVIP chopper scam case.

The court directed Tyagi and Khaitan not to contact any witnesses and not to leave the National Capital Region (NCR) without prior permission.

They, along with ex-IAF chief S P Tyagi, were allegedly involved in irregularities in the procurement of 12 VVIP helicopters from Britain-based AgustaWestland.

On December 30, the judicial custody of the two accused was extended by 14 days and they’d been awaiting verdict on their bail plea.

On the other hand, S P Tyagi was granted bail by a trial court on December 26, but the CBI challenged the order, claiming that if Tyagi remained out on bail then he may attempt to hamper the investigation and tamper with the evidence related to the case.

S P Tyagi, who served as Air Force Chief from 2004 to 2007, has denied the charges of kickbacks.
