NewDelhi, oct 15: To deal with the shortage of pulses and insufficient government outlets in the states, the center has decided to utilise post offices across the nation to sell subsidised pulses from its buffer stock, this festival season.
“We have already talked to the postal department and they are keen to start this. To make a beginning, we will start selling chana dal at subsidised prices at some of the post offices since it’s still selling at relatively high price,” said consumer affairs secretary Hem Pande.
The decision was arrived at the meeting of the inter-ministerial committee on prices of essential commodities.
So after Ganga Jal, post offices will now start selling pulses at subsidised rates to consumers. Finding a solution to the lukewarm response of states in picking up pulses from the central buffer stock, the Centre has decided to roll out this initiative in the next couple of weeks.
