Kabul, July 12 : At least 10 people have been killed and many others are still missing after a deadly landslide broke the banks of a natural dam in northeastern Panjshir province on Thursday , triggering floods that destroyed over 400 homes .
Officials said an ice cap on a nearby mountain melted and triggered the deadly landslide at about 1 am on Thursday in Has-e-Awal district of the province resulting into flash floods in Panjshir.
In one village over 400 houses were either destroyed or damaged,TOLO news quoted the deputy provincial governor Mohammad Amin Sediqqi as saying.
Rescue teams have been deployed and search operatio is on to trace the missing .
Two districts in the province have been cut off, Sediqqi said, adding that “the number of casualties may rise.”
Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) have appealed for help for the victims.
