Afghanistan: 38 killed, Over 60 injured in Kabul twin blasts

Kabul, Jan 11, 2017: At least 38 people were killed and over 70 others were injured in two back to back explosions in Kabul city of Afghanistan on Tuesday.

According to the security officials, a suicide bomber riding a vehicle detonated his explosives following the first blast near provincial government guest house this evening.

The officials further added that both the blasts took place due to suicide attacks.

However, the Taliban militants group claimed responsibility behind the explosions.

In a statement issued from the Presidential Palace, Ghani said the Taliban once again proved their enmity with Afghanistan by terrorising a large number of people in Kabul and killed and wounded innocent people including women and children.

The president said the attack was against humanity and that the criminals would find no safe haven in Afghanistan. He directed the authorities concerned to bring in use all available resources in the treatment of the injured people.

The explosion took place during a high-level meeting at the guest house.

Police immediately cordoned off the area and two hours after the attack ambulances could still be heard transporting the wounded to various hospitals in the city.

Among the victims was the head of the NDS zone in the PD7 who was reportedly killed while a female MP from Herat was among the wounded.

The MoI said in their statement that an investigation has been launched into the attack and details will be shared with the public as soon as possible.

“The interior ministry of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan strongly condemns the barbaric attack by the Taliban terrorists and prays for that those killed in the attack (that they) rest in peace and for the recovery of those wounded.”
