Afghanistan: 15 Killed in Taliban Attack in Kunduz Province

Kabul, June 11: Twin attacks took place in Afghanistan on Monday as suicide attack took place in Jalalabad city of Nangarhar and in another attack, 15 Afghan security personnel were killed in a Taliban attack in Kunduz province of Afghanistan.

At least four militants were killed after they attacked the Education Department in Jalalabad, in Nangarhar.A suicide bomber detonated his explosives near the education directorate compound while three others militants were shot dead by the security forces.

No reports of casualties yet but health officials confirmed 10 people injured have been taken to the hospital after being wounded in the attack. One person was reportedly in a critical condition, Tolo news reported. The attack took place at about 9:50 am local time after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives close to the education department. Three other attackers were then gunned down by security forces after a 10-minute gunfight, provincial governor spokesman Attullah Khogyani confirmed.

“There is no report on casualties yet but all attackers have been shot dead by the security forces,” Khoghyani said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the Jalalabad attack.

Nangarhar provincial governor’s spokesman also said security forces seized a vehicle loaded with explosives outside the education department after the attack.

In the meantime, Asif Shinwari, the head of the education department also confirmed the attack.

However, health officials later confirmed 10 people were taken to a local hospital after being wounded in the attack. One person was reportedly in a critical condition
