1993 Mumbai blast: Abu Salem, Karimullah gets life imprisonment; death penalty to Tahir, Feroze


Mumbai, Sept 7: TADA court has pronounced life imprisonment to Abu Salem and Karimullah Khan in the horrific 1993 Mumbai blasts case Today.

The court has pronounced death penalty to Tahir Merchant and  Feroze Abdul while Riyaz Siddiqui was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The court has also imposed a penalty of Rs 2 lakh on Karimullah Khan.

Convicts will get set-off for the time they have served in jail, said Ujjwal, Public Prosecutor on 1993 Mumbai Blasts case sentence.

The Convicts have been given sentences for different offenses, all punishments will run concurrently.

TADA court convicted Abu Salem along with 5 other accused in the deadly blast case in June.

In February 2015, Salem was sentenced to life term jail by a special court in the 1995 murder of Mumbai builder Pradeep Jain.

Abu Salem, who was accused of transporting weapons from Gujarat to Mumbai, was held in Portugal in 2002.

He was also responsible for giving weapons to actor Sanjay Dutt, who was accused in the case for the illegal possession of an AK-56 rifle, 250 bullets and some hand grenades at his residence on January 16, 1993.

The others accused in the blast case include Mohammed Tahir Merchant alias Tahir Takla, Karimullah Khan, Riyaz Siddiqui and Feroze Abdul Rashid Khan and Mustafa Dossa.

Mustafa Dossa died days after conviction.

Thirteen blasts had ripped through Mumbai on 12 March, 1993, claiming over 257 lives and injuring around 713 in the incident.
