Abhinav Bindra accepts offer to be Rio Olympics ambassador


Indian shooter and Beijing Olympics gold medalist Abhinav Bindra on Friday accepted the offer of the Indian Olympic Association to become India’s Goodwill Ambassador for the Rio Olympics.

The IOA had stirred up a controversy last Sunday when they named Salman Khan as a Goodwill Ambassador. Many sports personalities had slammed the move and questioned the timing of the appointment. Salman’s movie ‘Sultan’, based on wrestling is due for release soon.

The IOA had meanwhile also approached batting legend Sachin Tendulkar to be Goodwill Ambassador but the former India cricketer has not responded yet.

Bindra accepted the Indian Olympic Association’s invitation and said it would be an honour to take up the role.
