New Delhi, June 13: Oscar-winning music maestro A.R. Rahman may have won international acclaim for his craft but the man himself remains a largely obscured figure. An upcoming authorised biography will shed light on his life and philosophy.

Titled “Notes of a Dream: The Authorized Biography of A.R. Rahman”, it has been written by Krishna Trilok, a Chennai-based writer, and will hit the stands in August.

“We all dream of living a life that will in some way touch the world around us positively. And we constantly look to those who have done this for guidance. It is my honour to share the life story of one of India’s biggest stars — a story that is graceful and inspiring proof of the power of love, talent and hard work,” 24-year-old Trilok said about his experience of chronicling Rahman’s life.

The book will traverse a fascinating journey that began as a composer of advertisement jingles and has culminated into what is now a magnanimous presence on the international music stage.

“Notes of a Dream” will be published by Penguin Random House India and will capture “the nostalgia, the drama and the extraordinary success story” of Rahman.

The book carries a foreword by Danny Boyle, where the “Slumdog Millionaire” director touches upon the human qualities that make Rahman the man he is.

“His talent is matched by his appetite, his modesty and his generosity. All surrendered to the troubadour mentality; we are at the service of the music,” Boyle writes in the foreword.

The publisher said that the book features intimate interviews with Rahman, as well as anecdotes from key people in his life.

“There is no composition greater or more beautiful than life. Life is a song we compose through our choices and what we give. All these years, you’ve known me through my music. Now I look forward to you reading about who I am, and the story of where I am going,” said Rahman.

Penguin Random House’s Editor-in-Chief Meru Gokhale described the acquisition of this upcoming biography of India’s musical superstar as a “coup” for the publishing house.

Rahman is a recipient of six National Film Awards, two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe, among several other prestigious national and international honours.

Los Angeles, Aug 20 (IANS) Reality TV star Kim Kardashian West showed off her curvaceous body for a beach photoshoot with her friends. The mother of three was seen wearing little more than a neon pink thong bathing suit.

In the photographs, Kim, 37, can be seen posing barefoot on the beach, pairing her tiny bottoms with a tied-up white T-shirt and a pair of futuristic-looking sunglasses, people.com reported on Saturday.

To complete her look, the “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star ditched the wig she wore the previous night and returned to her naturally dark tresses, which she tied back into a high ponytail.

Later in the evening, Kim was seen wearing yet another neon green dress, which she accessorised with a different matching vehicle.

“My baby tonight,” Kim wrote alongside a picture of the Mercedes G550 4×4 SUV.

Mumbai, Aug 18: After months of rumours and speculation, Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, 36 and American singer Nick Jonas, 25 made their relationship official with a roka ceremony held on Saturday morning.

This roka ceremony will be followed by a star-studded party later tonight where Nick will meet Priyanka’s friends and colleagues.

The photographs from the ceremony which was held at Priyanka’s residence did the rounds on social media, but an official statement or update from the celebrities is still awaited.

The former beauty queen was dressed in a subtle yellow designer ensemble, and Nick wore a pristine white kurta churidar as he performed the ‘puja’.

One of the photographs shows Nick cosying up to Priyanka, who holds on to him, as they stand against a green background with a logo that reads ‘NP’ — merged together to denote the amalgamation of the first letter of both their names.

The increased activity at Priyanka’s residence since the past two to three days had indicated preparations for a celebration. On Friday evening, people were busy decking up the semi-circular balcony with green foliage.

The paparazzi stationed outside the building captured a priest making his way into the house, as well as Priyanka’s cousin Parineeti Chopra — who too was dressed in yellow — apart from a slew of relatives.

A party for close friends is likely to follow on Saturday evening.

Actress Preity Zinta congratulated Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas on their new journey together, saying, ””Congratulations to my dear @priyankachopra & @nickjonas on their new journey together. Wish you both loads of love, happiness & togetherness always 😍 ting #PriyankaNickEngagement #Celebration”

Nick arrived here on Thursday night with his parents — mother Denise and father Kevin Jonas Sr in tow.

The Jonas patriarch even carried a big Tiffany & Co. bag in his hand, fuelling the rumours about the formal ceremony to celebrate the couple’s engagement.

According to international media reports, Tiffany is the jeweller that closed down its London store for Nick to buy an engagement ring for Priyanka, and reportedly the two got engaged on Priyanka’s birthday last month on the 18th.

Her sparkler is said to be a five-carat diamond with a price tag of around $300,000, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

On Friday night, Priyanka, Nick and close family members stepped out for a dinner. Priyanka was seen proudly flaunting the rock as she made her way into a hotel, hand-in-hand with Nick, looking visibly elated.

Priyanka is a former Miss World, who established her space in the Hindi film industry with a slew of impressive projects like “Fashion”, “Mary Kom”, “Barfi!”, “Bajirao Mastani” and “7 Khoon Maaf”. She forayed into the international showbiz world with a singing career, and eventually landed the lead role in American TV show “Quantico”.

It gave her a launchpad that pushed her presence in the global entertainment universe. She made her Hollywood debut with “Baywatch”, followed by “A Kid Like Jake”. She will also be seen in “Isn’t It Romantic?”

Nick is a popular singer and has also acted in “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”, as well as done TV shows like “Hannah Montana”, “Camp Rock” and “Scream Queens”.

The two have been creating a buzz since a joint appearance at the Met Gala red carpet in 2017, leaving everyone wondering whether they were dating.

At the Met Gala, Priyanka had just laughed off a romance with Jonas, insisting they simply shared an agent and were friends. She had also said they went to the Met Gala together as they were both wearing ensembles by Ralph Lauren.

In December last year, Jonas, while promoting “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”, had expressed a desire to visit India.

“I’ve never been (to India), but I’m dying to go and I have now heard from Priyanka, my new friend, a lot about it,” Jonas had told news agency IANS in a statement.

As human beings we should help others in need: Rani Mukerji

Rani Mukerji

Melbourne, Aug 18 (IANS) Bringing about social change is the onus of every citizen of the world and not just of a handful of those who are in powerful positions, says actress Rani Mukerji, whose films “Black” and “Hichki” have been instrumental in transforming people’s outlook towards those with special needs.

As a celebrity with over two decades of experience in the world of Indian showbiz, Rani has also immersed herself in philanthropic works. While she finds it gratifying, she feels this is not something for actors or businessmen to do alone.

“I think we all being citizens of the world, have a responsibility and it’s not just for the sake of doing certain things because I am an actor, socialite or a business person.

“I think what’s important is that apart from the careers we choose, it is our basic duty as human beings to able to help other human beings… Or help in a cause because that’s what makes us truly citizens of the world,” Rani told IANS in a tete-a-tete here.

Her film “Hichki”, in which she plays a woman with Tourette Sydrome has been widely lauded for spreading awareness on a little known nervous system disorder involving repetitive movements or unwanted sounds, with an entertaining and emotional story at its core.

At the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) here, Rani was awarded the Best Actress for her role in the film. She feels when a film like this wins an award, it helps in pushing the awareness it sets out to spread.

When “Hichki” had released, Rani had said she won’t take long gaps if the movie works. So when do we see her on-screen again?

“I will be doing projects, and you will be getting to hear about them soon,” she said.

Will she pick another issue-based movie?

“Let’s see… I don’t want to say much. So wait for the announcement,” the actress, looking resplendent in a black ensemble by her forever favourite designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, said with a smile.

Her Melbourne trip was special. More so because her daughter Adira, who was born in December 2015, was travelling with her. She took the little one to the aquarium, zoo, a ‘bouncing garden’ and amusement park to entertain her.

“I got her all the way to Melbourne and it was my duty as a mother to entertain her as much as I could. I took her to an amusement park and it was the first time she sat in a roller coaster. And she is really brave. ‘Mumma, I want to go again’. So, she’s quite a daredevil like that,” Rani said.

Is that like you?

“Yes,” said the proud mother, who is married to filmmaker Aditya Chopra.

As a mother, patience is one virtue that Rani has realised about herself.

“When you are a working professional and when you’re working round the clock, I think you forget the word patience. Also, I think we as actors are used to the phenomenon because a lot of times we are waiting for shots in the vanity vans and waiting, waiting, waiting till the next shot comes.

“Being a mother I realised there’s no time to sit ideal. For me, it’s 24*7 work and attention. The only time when Adira will not need attention is when she is in deep sleep. The rest of the time I have to be all attentive for her.”

Rani is glad she was able to break the cliche around actresses who become mothers. It was her husband who pushed her to work.

But what about being directed by him?

“I think there are some things that we should just leave for later… Probably Adira will make that phenomenon happen… I guess, all in time.”
