A.K. Joti appointed as new Chief Election Commissioner

New Delhi, July 4: Election Commissioner Achal Kumar Joti has been appointed as the new Chief Election Commissioner, the Law Ministry said on Tuesday. He succeeds Nasim Zaidi.

Joti is a 1975- batch former Indian Administrative Service officer from Gujarat cadre and served as chief secretary of the state under the government the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

64-year-old Joti is going to assume office on July 6, the day when incumbent Nasim Zaidi will retire.

However, Joti will be serving his tenure for short duration as he is scheduled to retire in January 2018 after attaining the age of 65.
