Bangladeshi police conducted several raids and stormed a terrorist hideout in a Dhaka neighbourhood and killed 9 suspected ISIS Islamists in a gun battle on Tuesday.
“Nine Islamist militants were killed after two hour-long gunfight” deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Masud Ahmed told.
According to Mirpur Police Station OC, Mahbub Hossain, the nine militants were killed in a raid in a five-storey building that was conducted today morning.
National police chief A.K.M Shohidul Haque told reporters they suspected all 10 were members of the homegrown extremist group Jamayetul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), which was blamed for the Dhaka cafe attack.
“All of them belong to a militant group but it is still not clear which group they are,” a police official said.
The JMB group is blamed for a July 1 attack in Dhaka’s Gulshan diplomatic area, where 20 people, including Italians and Japanese, were killed when armed gunmen attacked a restaurant.
