An 8-year-old school boy died after he was hit by a bullet fired by locals celebrating victory of a contestant in Uttar Pradesh Panchayat polls. The child who was going in the rickshaw died after he was hit by a bullet by one of the person openly firing on road.
According to reports the incident happened on Sunday morning after the Panchayat poll result was announced and a local contestant at Shamli region had won the election.
NP Singh, SHO of Kairana police station said, “A child aged around 8 was going on a rickshaw, was hit by a bullet and died. It was a celebratory firing in which the child died”.
Following the incident the Superintendent of Police had ordered a high level enquiry into the matter.
The three-tiered panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh move towards their finale on Sunday. The election involves around 11 crore voters electing as many as 8,84,410 representatives.
Uttar Pradesh is known as India’s hub for illegal arms and gun-related deaths. Last year Uttar Pradesh was on top of the data released by National Crime Record Bureau, where around 1.5 lakh cases of posessing illegal arms were registered alone.
