JK Lon Hospital Kota

Jaipur, Dec 27 : Days after complaints of shortage of life-saving equipment at Kota’s JK Lon Hospital, which might have resulted in deaths of 77 children in the hospital in the last one month, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday said that a team has been sent to Kota to look into the deaths. He said strict action will be taken against those found guilty.

Hospital sources said 77 children died in December alone while 10 died on Monday and Tuesday.

Gehlot has given instructions to medical education secretary Vaibhav Galeria to visit Kota and submit a detailed report on an urgent basis.

“The chief minister has taken this issue very seriously and hence, I am here to find out the reason for neonatal deaths. A special committee will investigate if there were hygienic or clinical issues behind the death of these kids. Besides, all other issues will also be taken up,” Galeria said after visiting Kota.

On being asked if there was a staff crisis hitting the hospital, he said: “A crisis has in fact been there, but I cannot comment upfront without complete investigation. We are trying to figure out the lacunae present here and also trying to find solutions.”

Sources said that of 535 life-saving equipment, 320 were non-functional. Besides, only 27 out of 71 infant warmers were working. Some ventilators were also not working properly.

The hospital administration is, however, in denial mode.

Sources at the CMO confirmed that Gehlot is taking the case seriously and is himself monitoring the investigations.

Additional principal SMS college Dr. Amarjeet Mehta, senior paediatrician also visited Kota, along with Galeria.

Hospital sources said that all the children were brought in a critical condition to the hospital.

“Our investigation says that 10 deaths were normal and children did not die because of any negligence”, said Dr H.L. Meena, hospital superintendent.

Similarly, head of the department (paediatrics) Amrit Lal Bairwa said, according to national Neonatal Intensive Care Unit records, 20 per cent deaths of infants are acceptable while 10-15 per cent deaths have been reported in Kota “which is not at all alarming”.

The children were admitted in a serious condition, he added.

Indian Youth Congress Handcuff ot Yogi

New Delhi, July 11 : A day after encounter death of gangster Vikas Dubey at the hands of UP Police STF, the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) workers, here on Saturday, sent handcuffs to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to indicate growing gundaraj in the state.

IYC leader Varun Pandey said it was evident the UP police didn”t handcuff high-risk criminal. Dubey tried to flee from the UP police custody after having surrendered a day before to the Madhya Pradesh Police in Ujjain.

In a similar case, an aide of Dubey also tried to flee from the police custody and was killed in the encounter.

“It shows the Police don”t have sufficient means to restrain criminals, particularly handcuffs. Hence, the IYC has decided to send handcuffs to the UP Chief Minister as a symbolic protest,” he said.

IYC General Secretary Bhaiya Pawar said with several questions surrounding Dubey”s encounter, like attempts to stop the media from covering the STF cavalcade, changing of vehicle from Safari to SUV, and encounter of other Dubey aides, one thing was clear there was gundaraj in UP.

He said the chain of events given by the police also raised several questions. “If they are not able to hold a single criminal, what”s their utility,” he added..

On Friday morning, Dubey was shot dead when he reportedly tried to flee after a road accident in which the vehicle he was travelling in overturned near Kanpur.

Five Dubey gang members have been killed in the encounters over the past seven days.
