Bihar, July 9 : In what may be another case of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), 22 children have been admitted, and six have died at Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College in Gaya, since July 2.
Medical Superintendent said, “It is being told that this might be the case of AES but it is yet to be confirmed, reports are awaited; it will be ascertained after that.”
Dr VK Prasad, Medical Superintendent said, “It started on 2 July. So far 22 patients have been admitted.”
” It’s being told they might be suffering from Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) but it has not been confirmed yet, reports are awaited. Patients are being treated. 6 have died,” he added.
Till now, 116 deaths were reported at government-run Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome, while 21 deaths at Kejriwal Hospital, so far.
AES is a viral disease that causes flu-like symptoms such as high fever, vomiting and in extreme cases, brain dysfunction, seizure, and inflammation of heart and kidney.
