6 J&K cops injured after being thrashed by soldiers in Ganderbal


Jammu, July 22, 2017: Six policemen including an Assistant Sub-Inspector have been injured after Army personnel thrashed them for allegedly stopping their vehicle at a check-post in Gund area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Saturday.

As per the reports, 32 Army soldiers of 24 RR, travelling in a civilian vehicle, barged into a police station and beat up the policemen on duty late Friday night. The Army men also ransacked the property of the police station.

The soldiers were returning after performing the Amarnath Yatra, when they were signalled to stop at a check post by the policemen in Gund area, 62 km from here.

“The infuriated soldiers then thrashed the six policemen and also ransacked the Gund police station,” the sources said.

The injured were admitted to hospital.

When asked whether an FIR had been registered in the incident, the police sources said the Army has ordered a probe into the incident. Other legal formalities would follow, they said.
