6.6-magnitude quake hits Indonesia’s Sulawesi

A shallow earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.6 hit Sulawesi, Indonesia at 14:35 UTC (21:35 local time) on May 29, 2017. The agency is reporting a depth of 9.6 km (5.9 miles). Indonesia’s BMKG is reporting M6.6 at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles).

According to the USGS, the epicenter was located 26.3 km (16.3 miles) NW of Kasiguncu (population 0), 33.8 km (21 miles) WNW of Poso (population 47 110), and 79.2 km (49.2 miles) ESE of Palu (population 282 431), Indonesia.

There are 1 180 648 people living within 100 km (62 miles). 1 100 of them are living within 2 km (1.2 miles).

Some 29 000 people are estimated to have felt very strong shaking.

A magnitude 7.6 earthquake has struck in the Caribbean Sea north of Honduras.

There are no early reports of damage on land, but the U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center warns of tsunami dangers in Puerto Rico, Jamaica, other islands and the coast of Central America.

The U.S. Geological Survey measured the quake at a preliminary magnitude of 7.6. The quake struck in the sea Tuesday night about 125 miles north-northeast of Barra Patuca, Honduras, and 188 miles southwest of George Town, Cayman Islands. The tremor occurred about 6 miles below the surface.

Quake of 4.7 magnitude hits Meghalaya

Shillong, Dec 11 : A moderate intensity quake measuring 4.7 on the Richter Scale today shook Meghalaya but there was no report of any casualty.

Officials at the Regional Seismological Centre here said the epicentre was at a depth of 60 km in remote East Garo Hills district.

The quake, that lasted for a few seconds, occurred at around 9.05 am.

Meghalaya and the seven other north eastern states fall in Zone 5 of the country’s earthquake zoning map.

According to the zoning map, Zone 5 is associated with the highest level of seismicity.

Earthquake hits Uttarakhand, tremors felt in Delhi-NCR

NEW DELHI: A magnitude 5.5 earthquake jolted people in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Wednesday night.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said the moderate intensity quake originated in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district at a depth of 30 kilometres.

Earlier, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said the epicenter of the quake was located 121 km east of Dehradun in Uttarakhand.

Tremors were also felt in different parts of the country.
