Although Prime Minister Office directed skills ministry officials to open 5,000 new industrial training institutes (ITIs) this year, as much as 4000 ITIs from different states await affiliation and their founders are protesting on Jantar Mantar, reports Dainik Bhaskar.
The protestors from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi and all across the country have participated in this campaign.
In order to realize his “Make in India” dream, PM Narendra Modi had introduced Ministry for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and shifted highly envisaged task of creating ITIs from Labour Ministry to Skill Ministry. He had asked states to support and fund Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) so as to bring about an array of skilled workforce throughout the country. But now these ITIs are eyeing government approval to meet their fate.
As per the protesters at Jantar Mantar, whenever they go to meet the officials of concerned departments, they are directed with new rules and regulations. In fact they were told that their ITIs will get affiliation after Moists affected areas.
One of the protestors who is also President of All India New Private ITI Applicants Federation Nagendra Yadav says, “Almost 4600 private ITIs are ready to function throughout the country. In fact, each of them has hired staff and spent more than 2-3 crores on building, infrastructure and recruitment process. Most of these ITIs have even received approval from visiting inspector of Directorate of Skilled Development Ministry of Indian Government through email. The email said, the application is passed by accreditation meeting and sent for affiliation. But after some days we received a letter that asks for building completion certificate.”
However, Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudy says we have received only 2300 applications for approval and not 5000. As PM Modi wants to impart maximum opportunities of skilled employment to the young India we are providing affiliation to all the ITI applications we have received. But these should adhere by the minimum requirement for that. As priority we are trying to initiate ITIs in the backward regions. The last date for application was 31st October, which is now extended to 15thSeptember and could be further extended.
