3 killed after fire engulfs 150 “Jhuggis” in Jammu

Jammu, Nov 26: Three people killed and six other sustained injuries on Saturday after a devastating fire engulfed nearly 150 “Jhuggis” in Jammu, officials said.

Ramesh Gupta, superintendent of medical college hospital Jammu informed that three charred bodies were brought to the mortuary of the hospital in the night while six persons suffering critical burn injuries were being treated.

The fire broke out in Narwal area of Jammu city at around 12 a.m. in the slum area where dozens of families of Rohingya Muslims who were uprooted from Myanmar because of persecution have taken shelter.

Besides these Rohingya Muslims, dozens of other families of slum dwellers were also residing in the over 150 “Jhuggis” which were completed gutted in the fire.
