3 elephants killed by speeding train in Jharkhand-West Bengal border

Ranchi, Aug 7: Three elephants were killed after being hit by a speeding train in an area bordering Jharkhand and West Bengal on Tuesday, a railway official said.

The elephants were crossing the rail tracks near Gindhi station in West Bengal when they were hit by Gyaneshwari Express, killing them on the spot, the official said.

Due to the incident, rail traffic on the route was hit for four hours. Three local trains — Jhargram-Medinipur, Kharagpur-Dhanbad and Kharagpur-Purulia — were cancelled this morning, an official said.
