Kathmandu, March 10, 2017: At least 24 people killed and 36 more were injured after an overcrowded passenger bus veered off a mountain road and fell some 200 metres in Jajarkot district of Nepal.
Chief District Officer Krishna Chandra Poudel said the bus plunged off the road Thursday near a village about 400 kms (250 miles) west of the capital, Kathmandu. The bus rolled about 200 meters (650 feet) down a slope before crashing into the Pasagad river.
Poudel also said that rescue helicopters reached the accident area late Thursday and were able to fly 18 of the injured to a hospital in Nepalgunj city.
The bus was heading from Khalanga to Khara, a village in the district.
The bus with over 60 passengers was passing through rough terrain when the tragedy occurred.
