2019 Lok Sabha Polls: Congress leaves 7 seats for SP-BSP-RLD in Uttar Pradesh

Raj Babbar

Lucknow, March 17 : The Congress on Sunday announced that they will leave seven seats for the SP-BSP-RLD alliance. Addressing a press conference, UP Congress chief Raj Babbar also announced the seat-sharing deal with its allies in the state.

“We are leaving 7 seats vacant for SP, BSP and RLD. These include Mainpuri, Kannauj, Firozabad and whatever seats Mayawati ji and RLD’s Jayant ji and Ajit Singh contest from. We will also give two seats to Apna Dal – Gonda and Pilibhit,” Raj Babbar said.

While the SP-BSP-RLD alliance had announced that they will not field candidates in Amethi and Rae Bareli, Raj Babbar said that Congress will not field its candidates from Mainpuri, Kannauj, Firozabad and the seats from where BSP supremo Mayawati, RLD chief Ajit Singh, his son Jayant Singh will contest.

Babbar said, that the party had held discussions with the Mahan Dal earlier and the ally had said that they were fine with whatever seats the Congress gave them. “All they want is to contest the Vidhan Sabha elections. For the Lok Sabha elections they had said they’ll contest on our symbol. We’ll find out a way to work with them,” Babbar said.
