2 killed, 40 injured as Sealdah-Ajmer express derails near Kanpur

Kanpur, Dec 28, 2016: At least 2 passengers were killed and 40 others injured on early Wednesday morning when 14 coaches of the Sealdah-Ajmer express train derailed Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, Railway officials said.

In dense morning fog, the coaches went off the track when the train was crossing a bridge over a dry canal, nearly 70 km from Kanpur.

The accident took place near Rura in Kanpur at around 6 pm, the official said.

Senior railway, district and police officials have rushed to the accident site for rescue and relief operations.

This is a second rail accident in the region. In November, 127 passengers were killed in their sleep and nearly 200 injured after the Indore-Patna Express train slid off track near Kanpur.
