NSSO holds workshop to promote Statistics in Kashmir

The workshop saw participation by the Kashmiri youth in large numbers who were being given a detailed explanation about the subject.

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), Jun 30 : A workshop on importance of statistics was conducted in Srinagar with an aim to promote Statistics as a subject and make students of the valley aware about its benefits.

National Statistics Day

The workshop was held at Kashmir University and was organized by National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) in collaboration with Department of Statistics of University of Kashmir. It was to mark National Statistics Day which falls on June 29.

Head of Department, Department of Statistics University of Kashmir Prof. (Dr) Anwar Hassan highlighted in his speech that statistics has an important role to play in every corner of life and it should be taught at every level of formal and non-formal education.

Prof. Musadiq Ahmad Sahaf, Dean Academic Affairs and Prof. Zafar Ahmad Reshi, Dean Research University of Kashmir also spoke on the occasion. Prof. Musadiq highlighted the need of introducing a mandatory course in statistics in all subjects in University of Kashmir and Prof Zafar Ahmad Reshi highlighted in detail the valuable contribution of statistics in research and development.

The initiative was appreciated by the students of the Valley.
