12-year-old Girl Attacked with Acid in UP

New Delhi, June19: An unidentified man threw acid on the face of a 12-year-old girl, leaving her in a critical condition, in Uttar Pradesh today.

The girl was sleeping in the courtyard of their house in Thiriya Kalyanpur here late last night when an unidentified man threw acid on her face and escaped, Police said to PTI

Her family members rushed to help her. They claimed that the victim saw a man running away from the house.
Superintendent of Police (rural) Khyati Garg said, “The girl was taken to the district hospital. The accused is yet to be identified.”

An FIR has been registered against unidentified person.Police are yet to ascertain the reason behind the act.

“Parents of the girl were out of the village, when the incident took place. Once we gather information from them, we will arrest the culprit,” the SP said.

New Delhi, June 24 (IANS) Delhi University colleges on Sunday announced their second cut-off lists for admission, with Shri Ram College of Commerce marginally trimming its cut-off by 0.25 points to 98.25 per cent for Economics (Honours).

One of the most sought-after colleges, Lady Shri Ram (LSR) College which had set the highest cut-off at 98.75 per cent in the first list, dropped it by one per cent to 97.75 per cent in the second list.

The equally sought-after SRCC, in the varsity’s North Campus, had set its first cut-off, announced on June 19, at 98.50 per cent.

The cut-off for B.Com (Honours) was 97.75 per cent in the first list, while in the second, it is 97.37 per cent.

For Journalism course, the highest cut-off, set by the Delhi College of Arts and Commerce at 98.50 per cent, dropped it to 97.25 percent in the second cut-off list.

15 killed as tractor falls in Telangana canal

Hyderabad, June 24 : Fifteen agriculture workers were killed and 15 others injured when a tractor plunged into a canal in Telangana’s Yadadri district on Sunday, police said.

The incident occurred when the tractor carrying the workers fell in Musi canal near Veligonda. The dead include 14 women and a boy.

According to the police, the tractor driver lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.

The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals. The death toll may rise as the condition of some of the injured is stated to be critical.

The agriculture workers were on their way to nearby fields for sowing when the incident took place. Police personnel and revenue workers with the help of locals retrieved the bodies from the canal.

State Energy Minister Jagdish Reddy visited the accident site. He told reporters that a probe would be conducted into the incident. He assured all help to the families of the deceased and to the injured.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has expressed shock over the incident. He conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased and directed officials to provide best medical care to the injured.(IANS)

Army major arrested in Meerut for allegedly killing another officer’s wife

New Delhi, June 24: An Indian Army Major was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut on Sunday after the wife of another officer was found dead on Saturday with her throat slit on a street in the Delhi Cantonment area.

Army Major’s wife was found with her throat slit near Brar Square in the Delhi Cantonment area on Saturday. She had left home on Saturday morning for a physiotherapy session at the Army’s Base hospital in Delhi Cantonment but after half-an-hour later, she was found dead, police said.

Major Nikhil Handa, who is currently posted in Nagaland’s Dimapur , has been arrested from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, is being brought to Delhi for further investigation.

 

Major Handa left Delhi in a Honda City car after allegedly murdering the woman, police said.
Police on Saturday had said that the accused had allegedly run a car over her face to make the incident appear as an accident.
